Autumn Leaf Raking Tips

By Tom Smith

Of all the autumn outside home chores, picking up and collecting leaves is one of the most loathed. There are no lack of tools and hardware contraptions to help you pick up leaves from special leaf bag holders to leaf vacuums of every sort. The brisk air is here and the autumn leaves are dropping and covering lawns across the country. Below are some affordable things you can do to make your leaf clean-up a bit easier:

Rake at the correct time: You should always wait for dry day to pick-up your leaves because they will be lighter and easier to work with. Obviously, less breezy days are preferred because you will not be overwhelmed with more leaves blowing around as you try to pick up the leaves that have already fallen. A lot of people spend almost every weekend picking up their leaves. Yet a week of blustery conditions just brings more leaves for the next weekend.

Consider mulching your leaves: You can use a chipper vac to grind your leaves into tiny pieces that can serve as mulch. You might want to consider mulching your leaves if you don't have too many to deal with. Some leaves can be used as a sort of home made mulch to keep your shrubs warm through the cold winter months.

Use the correct tools: For tight spots don't try to use a leaf blower, instead use a medium-sized leaf rake to pull the leaves out into a clearing where you have more space. Backpack leaf blowers are popular, but they can be loud and dirty. Some people depend on leaf blowers more than is necessary. Leaf blowers are broad blowing tools that can sometimes disburse more leaves around your yard.

With a little planning the job of raking leaves from your lawn could be much easier than you think. No one enjoys cleaning up leaves every autumn but most people love the shade provided by those trees during the summer. - 31813
